I used to know the OG of the dirtbag right, P.J. O'Rourke, author of Republican Party Reptile.
Spent a wild night with him in London circa 1988 with me telling him how FDR's New Deal had saved the US, and him forcing daiquiris down my throat.
We both agreed that Maggie Thatcher was a nightmare but he tearfully confessed that he wanted to shag her.
Consequently I believe that it's a very bad idea for Americans to have any kind of fun at all and that the Mayflower Pilgrims had the right idea re brutal emotional repression.
That's a pretty amazing story--got a laugh out of "but he tearfully confessed that he wanted to shag her" lol. I always forget about P.J. O'Rourke for some reason.
Many of these folks got to this level via the hippie-to-wellness-to-alt-right-to-dirtbag pipeline. Prime examples are JP Sears and Russel Brand! Once funny harmless comedians now have turned into Alt-Right-Gurus. I lived in a "wellness/yoga community" In costa Rica before covid. Everyone there was wealthy, vegan, into herbalism, and yoga. I would say about 90% of them were pretty if not outspoken pretty far left liberals. Then covid. A year or two later they got on that same hippie-to-wellness-to-alt-right-to-dirtbag pipeline. It was wild to watch but I think the yoga and wellness community is worse off for it.
I'm surprised we don't see more infighting among the once-left-turned-reactionary-right and genuine conservatives. It seems like these two groups have way less in common than appears at first glance.
It’s so weird ! They don’t hang out it’s so true. You’ll find one at a Jerry Garcia art fair the other at a kid rock concert .The trad conservatives think of them as helpful idiots.

Round about the same time was a satirical puppet show called Spitting Image.
One sketch showed Reagan saying goodbye to Thatcher at the airport. Ronnie snogged Maggie passionately then she got on the plane.
Ronnie faced camera and said: "What a wonderful woman! Too bad I'm only fucking her country."
I think P.J. was channeling the same energy.
I get a similar dirtbag right vibe from David Cole Stein
Incredible ! lol
