Actually my money is on people ditching their smartphones and going back to novels. All the "search for restaurants in my area", etc. used to be done before going out the door, using a phone book, maps, and some planning; there's no reason we can't go back to that way of doing things.
There's absolutely something great about navigating the world the old fashioned way. There's an idea that all humans have an evolutionary desire to return to the sea (which might be all the big population centers are near the coast). In a similar way, I think even deep in the future, all humans will have some innate desire to return to an analogue way of doing things. But I also think tech has undeniable advantages and will never really go away.
I'm actually skeptical the AI Pin is even that far ahead of its time. As someone pointed out on Twitter, you can configure an Apple watch to basically have the same functionality (minus the ability to project graphics onto your hand): https://x.com/oliviali_/status/1727361448236511379
